look, i think the principle of this cable fix is the same for every engine configuration. You have to focus to stop the main wire from touching hot parts and give it a little more space; since the engine moves around so much (and the plug comes loose...! that's why I think the ecu goes crazy and does all the other symptoms) this also fits in the problem description that this occurs during a shift from major to minor gear I hope you understand me guys...

To be honest guys I don't think that works - had all wires looked at, tied and everything and nothing stops it - plus why would the fault not start the day we bought the car if this was the case? I might be wrong - and hope I am but have got v sceptical of th whole thing.
Had my 206 for about 4 years, its a 1999 T 1.1ilx - never had a problem with the car, was absolutely perfect until about 3 months ago, its done 55000 miles and suddenly has started cutting out...same old story restarts fine, no diagnostic faults being found, had new stepper motor but no change, had ecu check, universal check (expensive) and all have the same result - I am so pleased to have found this site as every peugeot person I have ever asked has mysteriously never heard of such a thing - one even asked me if I was using my clutch properly!
At university in Lancaster now so have tried a few garages up here but same old story, its going in back in Manchester at christmas for a complimentary diagnostics to see if any more is showing up but I have absolutely no hope of this thing ever ever ever getting sorted!
I reckon I have spent about 400 quid trying to get it sorted so far...I would pay any amount within reason if i knew it would solve the problem!
Have been using Shell Optimax for the past 3 weeks and amazingly the problem has vanished, but I am absolutely sure that this isn't going to last long, its been a nice break though!
Good luck everyone - we will get this on BBC Watchdog before long - and please if anyone has any solid ideas then email me!

Good luck everyone - we will get this on BBC Watchdog before long - and please if anyone has any solid ideas then email me! willhallworth@hotmail.com Has already been featured and Peugeot UK MD denied that there was this type of a problem and that it was down the failure of other parts causing the syptoms. But basically they don't know why it happens. Ask you dealer to send you car to Ryton. There Peugeot have a team of super technicians that are on standby to all the dealers to solve or give cause of problem to when the dealer has exhaused all possible reasons for the problem. Also request a before and after ECU update reading and make sure that the update was taken from the Pug update computer (I think it should say on the ticket something like update method: Internet whereas it would say CDROM) This checks back to Peugeots list of compatible ECU's for your car singularly and will offer it the latest compatible ECU update there is. The CD's are often out of date and not all engine ECU's are agreeable to the features of the update. This IS possible so don't be fobbed off, this is real and it can happen, you do however need to jump up and down like hell in the dealership. Oh and the dealers know of the super tech's at Ryton, it just costs a fortune for them to use them and I know they know about them cos they are still fixing 206 CC and 307CC reclining roofs which fail half way down, won't go down, won't come up faults.

TEXTTEXTIt's Clair back once again! Have reported my problem on this page before and it has returned with a vengence in the last month including a cut out in the fast lane of the M40 at almost 70mph. Unfortunately I have had no luck with Peugeot head office and so I have 23 other people (not from these boards but mainly work colleagues and friends) who own Pugs that are doing the same thing. We have decided to take action. Unless I hear from Peugeot with a recall or action statement by 23rd December, we will be organising a peaceful protest named "Peugeot - the LAST drive of your life?" outside main dealerships on the third weekend in January. I would like to hear from as many people who would be willing to join this protest - even if just for an hour. Perhaps Peugeot will finally take notice if their new/used car sales suffer as a result of honest but nevertheless bad publicity. Local news papers have agreed interest and (tentatively) regional tv. Please respond to me directly if you want to take part. clairtchambers@hotmail.com

Just to add a litte more mystery to it all, my brand new gti HDi 110 cut out last week, same story, just before clutch release after a downshift. Not sure changing plugs, leads, coil packs will help me.......
Lets see how things develop. Hope I dont end up wishing i hadnt just spent 13k on a pile!.

Hi,
Yet another victim. I'm having the same problems as mentioned by everyone else on this forum. As I approach a junction/lights/roundabout....basically, when I'm coming to a stop, the car cuts-out. Its a 206, T reg, 49K on the clock. It only started doing it on a daily basis since last week. As soon as the clutch goes down when changing down a gear, the engine cuts.
When the car cuts out, the EML comes on. It clears itself once I re-start. Its reluctant to restart sometimes. Once it does start, if I apply some gas, it cuts out again. If I could adjust to driving with my foot on the accel the whole time, it would never cut out!
I rang the dealer here in Birmingham, and they said it wasn't a problem they'd heard of.....yet, when I rang in with the problem details, they assumed I was another lady who had obviously rung in with the same fault!
I'm taking it in for a diagnostic next week.
I find that if I do `tweak' a few pipes/connectors/disconnect battery sometimes when this happens, it can temporarily sort itself out until the engine gets heated again.
Its beyond me, I'm looking to sell the car as I had problems with it 6 months ago as well (erratic over revving problem, which did get fixed)
Just wanted to post this even if there is no solution to it, just so that it would add to this database of problems!
Cheers.

A week ago my 206 XT (1.6l 16v engine) started stuttering and cutting out when pulling up at intersections (It would restart with no problem). Searched and was alarmed to see so many people with a same chronic problem.
Mechanic thought it was the spark plugs. Replaced the spark plugs but stutter was still present on way home from mechanic.
That night applied the Sutton's cable tie solution and for past week since have not had a single stutter.
Thanks Stutton!

Has anyone got any news regarding this problem? My 206 is cutting out on a daily basis and I can't stand it any more.

TEXTUpdate on Peugeot Uk's response to the watchdog article. My car was featured on the recent Watchdog article re Peugeot 206 cut out and engine revving problems. The car was taken to back by Peugeot after the programme aired. They had the car for almost 4 weeks in total and have now returned it. Not surprisingly, the coil was replaced as well as many other parts. As part of the feature I wanted Peugeot to state what they would do for other owners experiencing the same problems - they agreed that they will give EVERY owner who IS experiencing the problem and those that are worried the fault may develop the opportunity to have their car inspected at Peugeot's expense. As part of their diagnostics, Peugeot claimed that the car's level of maintenance was below par and that serviceable parts had been incorrectly maintained. Amazing - considering that the two previous services had been carried out by Peugeot themselves! I would ask members to do the following Contact Peugeot customer care UK and ask for the local Peugeot dealer who will do the diagnostic test free of charge. If anyone has taken their vehicle to Peugeot and not been offered the diagnostic test or had a less than satisfactory outcome/resolution to the situation would they please contact me immediately. If anyone visits a Peugeot garage and they claim to be unaware of the problem would you please contact me. I am contactable on clairtchambers@hotmail.com Many thanks.
