HOLD THIS SPACE! please feel free to contact me with your problems. People power and numbers of complaints could get us somewhere here! Many thanks for all the comments folks. As you may have already worked out, this thread is for a collection of those drivers who have erratic Pug engines. Feel free to use this thread in your case to prove you aren't the only one out there. If you want to take the info contained herein to a regulatory body then feel free to take up the cause, as the whole point for this collection of details etc. was to eventually hand it over to a consumer affairs body for their uptake on the situation. It is understood by all who entered their info it is/was to be shared with someone who can do something about it. We all agree here that someone will be hurt if its not solved. Pug have taken some steps to control the weird engine speeds, by revising certain parts within the engine, but are reluctant to launch a recall for all 206's for the commercial reasons, and favouring to install the revised items when someone complains about it, as not everyone suffers this fault. Good Luck with your challenge.

Clair
I would try the coil pack, leads(extensions) & plugs as this (high revving) happened to mine.
Spikes to the ECU can cause that or the Map sensor.
Do you have the old type of coil pack?

How long and how did you go about dealing with the last 'issue' with Peugeot? My advice is to write as many letters as possible to Peugeot headquarters (!) and the dealer involved with you and also send one to France. Of course mention how disillusioned you have become with their level of service and how you don't feel as though you can trust Peugeot anymore... it's rediculous that a 2nd replacement car should also be the same!
Crazy Peugeot!

My wife's 1998 1.4LX had this exact problem and with two young kids in the back, having it cut out at busy junctions was getting very worrying. It was totally random, sometimes a day could pass by without incident, another it might happen several times in an hour. There seemed no continuity to it, albeit we could sense the regularity was increasing and it was time to get it sorted.
It was bought 2nd hand, no warranty, nada. With a lump in my throat and my wallet getting very nervous, I took it to my local Peugeot dealer in Redditch who initially summised the ECU was on it's way out. They flashed it with the latest data for a modest fee, but the next day it happened again. They then replaced a piece of hose to the manifold, claiming this would solve it, as air had been getting in and causing the ECU to go crazy. This cost £18, but again it started within 24 hours.
Finally, they replaced the ignition coil, plugs, the works....cost £175....problem has never returned.
Touch wood!
That said, we have encountered several other problems with this heap of junk and one I am about to ask for help with on here in a moment. We bought a knacker, simple as that - you live and learn......
Good luck with your problems getting sorted out, hope my comments help someone anyway.
Regards

MMMM i just bought this car second-hand (35,000kms) and it seems to have this problem. It's a XS 2003 and i really like the car. I am very worried, the revs and needles drop but there is no stall. I hope they can fix it for sure... damn Peugeot..! they better listen to us and fix this problem.

2003 1.1 MC03***
I have had my Peugeot 206 for just over a year now, I used to find that when I was driving down the motorway the engine light would pop up for a few seconds and then disappear, this occured about 5 or 6 times. Although more recently I have had three occassions while driving down the road, the engine light appears, then the steering goes heavy and finally the engine cut's out. After restarting the engine all appears fine.
I contacted my local Peugeot dealer and explained the problem to them, they said to bring it in so they could check the ecu. My car went into the garage today, when I went to collect it I was told that no fault was found on the ecu, and that I should contact them if it happens again.
Not too happy and about to write to Peugeot!!

HEY GUYS LISTEN UP, I MAILED sutton.dyeline@btclick.com (look for his post on page 1 of this topic). THE PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY EASY TO FIX..! HE SENT ME SOME PICS IN HOW HE FIGURED OUT MY PUG HASN'T HAD A PROBLEM IN A MONTH...! ;D as a matter of fact, the problem is so dumb that peugeot will not figure it out ever because they expect a more complex failure.
