So what does that make the Golf? It's marginally slower than the 206...and doesn't handle as good...

Muzzy, how does the handling of the Golf compare to the Pug? not quite as good as th 206 but not far off when really pushing it. The front end tends to carry on going forward when going round corners but im posistve this is because the tyres i have on the golf have a large profile from the rim. Im sure that with lower profile tyres (205/40/16 like my old 206gti), stiffer springs and an uprated antiroll bar the golf would out handle my old pug. Its does feel alot more planted than the pug used to be but then again the golf weighs an extra 150kgs ontop of the 1100kg of the 206 gti.

The golf piles on the speed quicker in any gear than my 206gti ever did. and i still get 30mpg ;D ;D Trust me ive had a 206gti. I do agree that my golf doesnt handle as good as my old 206 did but for a couple of hundred quid this could be sorted. what would you prefer? a car that handles well but with a pants engine that you cant do much to and starts to rattle squeek when its got any more than 20k on the clock? or a car with not so good handling that can be improved very easily and an engine where you can gain 100bhp very cheaply and not have the risk of knackering the engine because its internals are rated upto 350bhp as standard. I know which id have and that why i chose the golf... Other cars you could choose with the stonking 1.8 20valve turbo motor would be; audi a3 1.8t 2wd audi a3 quattro 1.8t 4wd audi S3 1.8t seat ibiza 1.8t seat leon 1.8t seat leon R 1.8t audi tt only pug i would ever go back to would be the 205 gti. Ive had 2 and they are the beez neez when it comes to a proper hothatch. Civic type R's are v nice, have vw build quality and are quicker .......but i prefer turbo cars than n/a cars.

All you've got to do now is change your signature to reflect your new-found love of VW's...

another thing that points me towards a ctr is the reliability of the vtec engine.......u can cane it till 7900rpm and yet it will still love u (as long as u warmed the engine up)........
.......since u write down the leon 1.8T.....hmmmmmmm suppose that wont be that bad a car???
not that i am looking to getting a new car anytime soon!
