The shape and length of the heatshield was the killer. It went right from up inside engine bay right back to petrol tank with no joins in it to split. And this was with the middle exhaust rubber removed.

blackpug it was bad fitting yeah? i haven't fitted mine yet i was tempted to tackle myself maybe install from engine bay but it sounds very hard Imagine be easier for a garage to fit when up on a lift Does it actually feel better now then? is harder to change? is it hard to get used to? cheers mate.

Is yours the same type as mine. Mine fits to the bottom of gearstick. The original type would have been a lot easier to fit. I think Griffith were using me as Guinea pig for new design. The gearchange is a lot better now. It isn't harder to change - just feels a bit heavier. You get used to it no bother. This is how it should have been from the factory. I still wouldn't have paid a garage to do it.

hey blackpug
Well on the back of my griffith engineering quickshift the instructions tell me: "Fit to bell crank linkage... quick shift and 12mm spacer above 6mm spacer below" then it goes onto... "Remove gear rod... Fit quick shift over existing ball stud... fit backing plate under original linkage... refit gear rod onto new ball stud."
It doesn't look like yours though.

Yours sounds like the original type......a lot easier to fit. Put it on quick. Improves the crap gearchange of the gti.

I measured the movement of gearstick after fitting qs. From neutral to any gear, the movement at the knob is 1.5 inches. I should have measured it before but is a lot shorter.

Thats ok then.
I have a sliding scale as to how much I can set my throw to.
I think I will set it to middle!! Could always change it if not happy!!! ;D

Mines is set to the shorter throw side of middle. Theres no way I'm taking off heatshield to readjust.
