Can anyone tell me what the average consumption should be for the Pug 206 1.4 8v engine. Mine seems to be guzzling it at 33miles per gallon.
Also can anyone tell me if 900rpm is what the car should be idling at? I've found that the car runs away on corners with no foot the the accelerator.

hey alan, nice name, not that my names alan or anything....
The fuel consumption figures i have here in the brochure when i got my car (2 years ago) show these figures for your 1.4:
Urban MPG - 33.6 Extra Urban drive cycle MPG - 56.5 Combined drive cycle MPG - 45.6
Idling at 900rpm seems about right, I would have said 800-900.
Hope this helps!

33mpg seems a bit low. I get 28mpg in my gti. My wife used to get 40mpg in her 1.1 Look. 900 rpm idle is ok. From what ajsuk says, you should get something in between the urban and the combined cycles - unless your very heavy with your right foot!

Yeah the idling seems fine, is your exhaust blowing, maybe that could be drinking your juice!!
I like it when I sit in slow moving traffic and have all feet off pedals but car still slowly moves forward!! Thats gr8. Is that cause of high idle tho!!

lee, when the car is moving forward, is that after you have stopped or you've released the clutch to let it roll forward?

I have slowly taken my foot off accelerator so it has momentum, but even when it goes up a slight slope it keeps pulling the car along!! Gr8 fun!!

Basically as I come to a stop in traffic, I obviously put foot on clutch and brake, then pull away, just as the car gets rolling I can take foot off clutch and then off accelerator, the car will continue to slowing move forward. Everytime it feels like its gunna slow to a stop the engine sort of 'pulls' and car is moved along. This is all done at minimal speed!!

i think i know what u mean, u slow the car down enough so that you dont have to "stop" the car, but allow it to roll, so its quicker to take off again....
....thats what i do anyway, save on me brake pads anyway (which are crap btw!!)

Nah i'm not particularly hard on the right foot (although I seem to leave Ford Focus's in the dust...), it had the ECU software updated recently, so I'm going to see if the figures change in any way.
Its usual run is about 10miles a day, usually 30Mph, occasionally 40Mph up and down hills. I try to get it into 4th ASAP.

do u have a sound system in your car or is your a/c always on, because those play a big factor in petrol consumption!
