Scoured the board for ages and couldnt find any FAQ or How to.
I want to remove the surrounds on the air vents either side of the dash and also the centre dash cover ( heater controls, clock cover etc) so i can paint them.
Has anyone else done this as i dont want to break any clips or pronges etc.

according to haynes max power book, "The vents come out easy once you've levered up the edge. Disconnect the vent pipe from the heating system and the vent will come off completely." It has a pic of them with a slim screwdriver prising up the top right corner of the vent and holding the bottom with their other hand. Dont think its hard, Ive pulled one out with just my hands out of curiosity.

its a 5 min job! remove the whole centre section and then all you got to do is unclip the air tube behind it to get to the vents....

Let me clarify a litte, the part i want to remove is the bits of plastic with the diagrams on them showing which way the vents ( sides of the dash ) need to be to get air or close. And also the 'housing' around the clock, and the big plastic bit that starts from just under hazzard button and goes all the way down past the radio opening and finally around the heater controlls and ac buttons etc. I thought i would ask this time as when i removed the bump strips i broke all the clips off the first one

ah, so your wanting all of them out really. Well the two at either end of the dash are removed exactly as I said, Im not just meaing the swivel part of the vent, but the housing that goes round them, its a complete unit that u can lever out. As for the centre dash sections, I think the clock housing just lifts forward from prising it up at the back, I think Lee has done this, he will confirm when hes on later. As for the rest of the centre section, under the hazard switch, Im not sure how that comes out, will have to wait on someone else to explain!

To get the clock pod off get your fingers around the back of it and pull it up and towards you. It will unclip but beware the hazard button wiring will still be attached to don't be too violent at pulling it. The centre console frame need to unscrewing from the top with 2 torx 12 screws either side which will be revealed when you take the clock pod off, you then prise this off the fish clips that hold it to the sides of the dash area. If you want pictures etc.. then got to www.206gti.net and look for the mobile phone holder how to, they show pictures and step by step instructions on how to get it off.
