I traded my 206 gti in for a golf gti 1.8 turbo. Beleive me you really dont know how poo pugs build quality is. The golf is light years ahead.. no sqeaks rattles or anything. Feels like my step father bmw 5 series in the refinement stakes. My new golf feels just as quick as my 206 gti but sadly on the handling side its not quite on par with my pug.
Pug was far more nimble but the build quality more than makes up for it.
Also with the pug 206 gti you have to spend 100's if not 1000's to make it a quick car and because of this other than a quickshift and k&n my pug was standard.
Best thing about the golf is 150bhp and 160lbft of torque as standard, then you can take it for its ecu code changing (a guy plugs his laptop into your ecu) and £500 later you have 220bhp and 240lbft of torque and a very quick car indeed (The golf now has the same power as a subaru impreza turbo but weighs less!!) . If you get an exhaust with sports cat and a larger turbo inlet pipe (another £500) it goes up another 20bhp to 240bhp!
Looking at about 6.5 0-60mph and 14-15 seconds to 100mph
So advice from me who had a pug 206gti for a very long time...... get shut and buy a gti turbo. You dont know what your missing out on

Glad your pleased! BUT... The cheapest Golf GTi is 20k - 5k more than a 180GTi 206 I'm sure the Golf is a better built car, but my 180 has no problems, squeeks, rattles, or anything ;D It also hits 60 in 6.8 (EVO's test fig's) so spending another £500 on top of 20k for another .3 of a second aint that impressive... never been a VW fan myself I just don't like the look of em, but for a 25% price increase on a 180 you should get a better car - I'm just not sure that you do!!! Personally I'll stick with my 180 Though if I had 20k it would be spent on a Lotus Elise or 225bhp Audi TT (secondhand in both cases of course!)

cheers just to clarify the golf gti 1.8 20valave (150bhp version) turbo mk4 does 0-60 in 7.9 and 0-100 in 24 seconds as standard so for 500 quid it knocks 1.5 seconds off the 0-60 and 10 seconds off the 0-100. ;D ;D ;D bargain mod if you ask me ;D

ahhh...
Thats cool then for a second I thought you'd got a 'new' one
8K for a 30,000 miler sounds a great buy, and to knock 1.5 seconds off its 0-60 for £500 must be the bargain of the year!!!

240 lb/ft torque. Must be really quick in the higher gears. My cousin has Golf VR6. Drove that and it is very torquey. Doesn't look much different from standard Golf so bit of a 'Q' car.

£200 above book price.
He showed me that a 206 gti on a 99v with 50k and fsh should be getting £4300 trade in.
I said to him if he knocks £200 of the golf or gives me £200 extra for my pug i would have the golf. So he gave me £4500 trade in for my pug.
It wasent that bad because my pug was 1000 miles over its 50k service which i hadent botherd doing because i was getting shut and i knew the driveshafts sounded like they needed doing.
But my pug did stand out compared to the one he already had on the forecourt. My old 206gti had all handles bumpers etc colour coded in china blue. It was a very nice looking car and was immaculate.
1week later he had it up on his forcourt for £4999 and it sold in 2 days. The other pug gti he had on his forecourt had been there for 6 months ;D
so if anyones got my china blue 206gti they have got a car thats been in my family since new and been very well looked after. Reg no v443 lnw ;D

nah not yet. I havent had it revo'd .....still saving. although on the motorways fun ;D my clock goes up to 160mph..... weird as i reckon the top end is the same as the 206 gti It doesnt feel like a chuckable car like the pug did. When going hell for leather round corners you can feel the weight of the car making the tyres scrabble for grip and its quite scary ;D. I think it will be a very similar car to my old punto gt i had once its revo'd Fast a foook in a straight line But not that confidence inspiring in corners. Thats the thing with peugeot though. Peugeot good points 1)They make lovely looking cars 2)They handle very well, Peugeot Bad points 1)They dont make any superfast hatches or hatches that can be easily modified to go super quick 2) build quality If my old pug 206 gti had the 1.8t vag engine and the recaro's that are in my golf and i had the vw's build quality it would be a stonking motor. Thats the thing though all the quick cars ive had, have been crap in the handling compared to my peugeots. (ive had 4 since 1997, 3 of them being 205's) Best pug i had was my silver 1.9gti back in 1997. quite quick but bloody amazing round the bends with the rear end drift ;D ;D pug need to build a quick turbo hatchback in my opinion

tempting, i know the 5 cylinder engine u've got is great cos i test drove the Audi A3 1.8t and that went well and handled great imo.... currently looking at the S3 which i believe also has the same engine but has 225bhp standard.. also checking out the vw v6 4motion, although realise the engine is not as modifiable, just quite fancy 4wd for some bad ass traction....

I would have preferd the s3 but i couldnt afford one. They seem to be expensive for the year/ milage of the car. But you can get the revo software for the s3 and that puts the bhp up to somewhere around 275-280bhp!!. The s3 has larger intercoolers, bigger turbo, than the normal golf/audi 1.8t engine..oh and 4wd ;D ;D
I did look at the v6 4motion golf too but performance wise there's not alot of difference between a v6 and a standard 1.8t. but once the 1.8t is revo'd its bye bye 4motion ;D
The thing that put me off about the 4 motion was 1) The weight (its a very heavy car 1450kg, my 1.8t is about 1250kg) 2) Fuel. The v6 is a very thirsty car and youd be lucky to average 20-24mpg. 3)Price. They do cost alot more than the 1.8t and for what i spent on my golf (£8000) youd be looking at a v6 with star trek milage on and not as new as mine. 4)There's not alot more you can do to increase the performance
I'd choose the s3 if i where you as it'll hold its value and they are alot quicker than 1.8t and 4motion
Have you seen the seat leon cupra R. They have the s3 engine but no 4wd, are mega quick and about half the price of an s3 and look sweet ;D

i think that the seat leon cupra-R has the best of both world, the fast 225bhp engine, 5 door and cost much less than the vw or audi equvialent.
but at the same time, the fact that it is a 5 door spoils it for me.
