Ok, for your comparison.
2.0 HDi, Chipped to 117bhp, driving fastish (not plodding along, accelerating hard upto speed limit but not braking sharply) 2x 10 mile journeys along twisty A roads to work. 450miles to 1/8 of a tank.
Long distance calm A road driving (10 hours driving back from Halifax) 350miles on 1/2 a tank.
For your average 10 mile commute a diesel is not more economical (well with my lead foot it aint), for cruising along A roads on long drives.... need I say more ;D

the petrol only really has good economy at motorway/A1 cruising speeds, anything less and your pouring it down the drain.
however, with diesel its a different story, the in town driving economy is the same as petrol cruising........but a diesel has smaller service intervals (well most tend to) and cost more over the equvialent petrol version.

Something I have noticed.
full -> 3/4 tank, goes slowly. approx 150 miles 3/4 -> 1/4, goes quickly approx 160 miles 1/4 -> Empty, goes slowly, again 150 miles (approx, never emptied the tank)

Id agree with that i never bother filling it over a half cos it drops visibly to quick (im sure weve had this thred before cos me and lee say only fill a quarter cos the cars lighter?) am i correct?
