Well just an update guys ive now sorted out my insurance online with norwich union. If you remember i was tryin to get it for a couple of months till july after my 21st birthday well i found on norwich unions web site that they do a 'Rapid Bonus' insurance where they insure you for 9 months and at the end of it you get a years no claims bonus so thats a right result for me coz it will end in november after my birthday and i still get an extra years no cliams!
because i fall in the catagory of 17-20 i have to pay a £350 excess pluss whatever i choose as a voluntery excess, so i chose £50 so the excess is £400 and then a deposit of £186 i think followed by 7 payments of £87 so ends up about £730 ish i think

Careful though, to use that years NCB you get from them you have to stick with that insurer, this is why they do this because it technically is not a year, only they will take you as doing a year, Elephant do the same with their 10 month scheme, so make sure that they offer you a good deal afterwards otherwise anyone else you go to won't accept 9 months as a year no claims!

Hmmm didnt think of that lol, well norwich union seem pretty good price wise anyway, but say if i stay another full year after so id then have 3 years no claims, one previous, one for the 9 months and then one for the full year after, could i take the 3 years to another company?

I dont think you wil have three years mate!! Prob only 2!! I was looking at elephant.co.uk and noticed the 10 year accelerator, but as Wardy says I would have to stay with them, my premium would get less, but only with them!!
You will have to contact norwich union and see wot they say!!

I know people who have transferred their elephant policy to others who have accepted their 2 years no claims etc even though it is actually only 20 months. Guess it depends which insurer you move to and/or how specific you are about such a technicality!

As long as you get a No Claims statement from your insurers when you get your renewal notice, then thats all a new insurance company require as proof you have the stated No Claims you filled in when getting a quote.
But Wardy is right, sometimes it does mean they lock you in and if you opt out then you only have what full years you have.

Talking of insurance....... I'm with Norwich Union and I got my renewal through the other day. Robbing b*****ds wanted £400 off me and it was only £300 last year!!!! I checked on confused.com to see if I could get it cheaper and strangely enough the cheapest quote I got was with......wait for it......Norwich Union for £250 I phoned them up and explained what I'd found and the guy on the phone said that he was sorry but they couldn't match that quote, the best they could do was £350. So I said to him "but that quote is with Norwich Union and I'm already with Norwich Union" He said that there was nothing he could do and suggested that I purchased the policy I'd found online. An hour or 2 later I phoned them back to cancel my exisiting policy and when the guy asked why I was cancelling it I said "HA! You're gunna love this!" All he said was don't worry I've heard it all before. When I told him he said that it was quite common. Whatever happened to looking after your customers? If it wasn't for the fact that it was the cheapest quote out there by far I would've gone with someone else. But even I aint that daft to cut my nose off to spite my face. Just in case you're interested the policy is for: 1.6 16V 2001 model Fully comp £60 windscreen excess £150 excess 15K miles a year Don't know what you think but I thought that was a firkin good price!

your so lucky emily..........thats is f**king cheap!!
i need to renew mine next mon (i am on a 10-bonus acceleration as well).........not looking forward to it tho.......got an online quote of £940.00 with: - all mods (xorst, lowering-even tho i aint done it, rear spoiler and alloys) declared - me sis as additional driver - fully comp - 1 years NCD - 12 months
that is bad compared to emily and most other peps on the forum!!
but i live in a real bad crime zone, so i never expect the insurance company to like me very much!

My insurance for my gti runs out in June. Which of the big insurers let you modify car (exhaust etc.) without crucifying you. I'm currently with E-sure.
