You will need to take care due to the airbag, which I may add is classfied and explosive device.

MMMmmm, thats a question for Diag I'm afraid. I haven't got a clue how to remove an airbag, without setting it off of course. They can be fragile, I think you disconnect them to make them safe, but saying that if it has no signal, that might trigger it. I really don't know.
Once the airbag is removed though under where the airbag sits, there should be a huge bolt that screws down on the steering column, you just undo that and lift off and replace with your GTi one. I guessing here, but thats how most are connected.

hello there to make them safe simply disconnect the battery for 30 mins before starting On the backside of the wheel there are 2 holes slightly covered you may have to turn the wheel or remove the cowls to access them .You will need a t20 torx socket and ratchet undo the screws and hey presto off it comes. To disconnect the bag itself you carn't help but see the connecter flick the upper part up and pull the connecter away. Then you will need a t50 torx socket and strong arm to undo the bolt that holds the wheel on Hope this helps Ps this info is for pre multiplexed cars If anyone needs info on multiplexed air bag removal let me know

The wheel arrived today - £40 delivered inc VAT so i was quite pleased, its in very good condition too. Anyway, when i fitted today, the ribbon thing that makes the indicator cancel fell out - i re-wound it but i dont know if i did it properly because the indicator only cancels sometimes.
If anyone knows how it is supposed to be fitted i would appreciate hearing from them...

Glad to hear you went for it AS for the prob can you give a little more info ? From reading your post it sound to me like the clock spring (white ribon type thing) has come out of it's casing . if this is the case then that is easy just wind it back in allowing enough slack so as you can go lock to lock ( about 1.75-2 turns each way). Make sure you have fitted the wheel right as it is this that normaly cancels the indicaters. Hope this helps ,if not ask and i will try to be of more help to you .
