I need to get my windows tinted, so I wondered if anyone has any previous experience or bright ideas. I have a firm in mind, they will do the pug for £200 plus VAT, the back and the sides, (all but the windscreen). They will give a 'lifetime' guarentee. Is that a good price? Also, if I do this am I going to f*** up any thing else in the car like sensors or something? Please advise

When I got my windows tinted, I asked for side and back tints... when he came, he couldn't do the back as it was 'too curved' He said he'ld sort something out and then come back, I asked about paying, and he said we'ld sort it out when he did the back.... haven't heard from him since! ;D This was months ago!

Remember that having something more than 18% of light being blocked means they're illegal so tread carefully, old bill can tow your car away if you don't get the tints removed and they feel they're too dark...

You mean the rear windows? Couldn't he just have taken the glass out and done them?

I got mine tinted through a chap on the Peugeot Sport Club.
He charged £130 and used "light smoke" which is I believe is on the border for legality.
The back screen could be done but had to be done in 3 different strips. He used the rear screen heater to seperate the film. I have heard of a number of people and companies who have had probs doing the rear screen. But with a lot of patience and skill.....and a steady hand....it can be done.

Uhm i got my window tints done for £200. I had light smoke at the front side and dark smoke at the rear window n side.
My rear window was done with one tint and didnt need to be done in strips. ;D
Basically the guy got a large film of tinted and like made a mold or something and applied the rear window in one whole sheet.
I got it done by pro's who specialise in car tints. They are called Tint 4 Cars and are situated in Chadwell Heath. If thats too far i would advise you to look for a company who is able to tint the rear window in a whole sheet and which have had years of experience.

My first car had its windows done not by a dark film but as a sort of a galvanization. Windows were taken out, their inside was covered with a film so it doesn't get colored, and then dipped in a sollution, silver nitrate i think it was, same as used for mirrors, just not as concentrated, with additives that gave it a bit of a blue-ish tint. This tub with a mirror dipped in a sollution was then electrolyzed so the nitrate bonded with the glass outside. Depending on how long you keep the glass in there (15-20) minutes glass gets a stronger reflection. In the end, you could get a completely reflective surface if you like, but from the inside it can be seen through. I opted for some 30% reflection, so i got a windows, silvery-blue in color, partly reflective, but from the inside more transparent than the classis tinting film. As a plus, the surface could not be peeled off (and VERY hardly scratched), so the Police couldn't take it off ;D ;D ;D Very nice looking, especially on blue, and silver cars.

Hi everybody, I read an article in the Daily Mail today regarding a crackdown on window tinting. It seems that 35 makes of vehicle fall foul of the law on tinting these include the peugeot 106,206 and 306. Does this apply to the standard fit tinted glass or is there an option for darker tint when you order the vehicle?. I find this quite alarming as I took delivery of a 206 sw 2 weeks ago. Looking around the glass seems no darker than any other vehicle, except the tailgate glass which is darker but as far as I know this is ok. Surely a car sold from new should conform to all legalities.

goff you can have the rear as dark as you want you can paint it with black paint if you fancy as long as you have 2 wing mirrors but the front side is a different thing is it 75% of the light its gotto let through can't remember, think they are talking nuts myself

I believe its something like that pugwash. I thought the windscreen and 2 front side windows must have a minimum 70% light transmission and any others can be as dark as you like. I wouldn't worry too much goff, I drive an SW too. Just think of all the vans in the world with steel panels instead of back windows which are perfectly legal. They can't have 2 different laws can they?!
