with regards to lowering, u have two options dependent on your budget.
if you have a small budget, then just get lowering springs and these will work with your current shocks on the front (the rear stays as it is) but the torsion bar at the rear will be lowered to either "match" the front or by a measurement. when the garage says "one link" he may have meant "one spline" i have heard that this is not the best way of lowering the rear tho.......
if you have a larger budget, then get some shocks for the front and rear also, this will work better as the new shocks will work better with the lowering springs (and the peugeot stock springs are notorious for leaking after a period of time anyway)....with the rear, the rear shocks will be replaced with the new shocks but the torsion bar will still need to lowered.
i have heard of some peps complaining that the rear is too low and that it causes rubbing under the arch, but some have done so without any hassle.....so ask yourself this, are you gonna be using your car to ferry peps about or for your own personal use?

Go for Eibach springs(middle of the range) and Koni dampers (middle of the range) This will be the setup I intend to use on next car!! This is supposed to be a really good setup!!

i personally have not lowered me car......uni pending unfortunately!
but will be going for either the koni sports adjustable shocks with eibach pro-kit springs.......or if i have the money the blistein sports shocks and eibach pro-kit springs.
eibach are probably the best springs on the market so i would def get them.

Gmax are not as good as Eibach!! When you are lowering your car you will want the best really, cause the ride can become bumpy or stiff and very uncomfortable!!
So I would wait and save for Eibach ones!! ;D

its tru what lee has said tho at the same time, some peps have complimented the g-max springs whereas some have cursed them....... if u can wait then i'd advise on saving more and getting higher quality springs....but the choice is yours....

You'll definitely need Eibach 50mm springs. You can also go for APEX. I don't recommend S-racing which I have, it's a bit smooth you'll have trouble with the bumps.
I wanna ask something, The rear of my car pops way too much, its a 5 door so the rear is not sporty as gti, what do you think i should do to make it a bit harder ?

Don't go for 50mm springs! My Eibach pro Kit -30mm springs seems to have settled over the last 7 months so it's dropped more than 30mm! I dont imagine my country lanes are any worse than anybody elses and it's very easy to hit the bumps stops when travelling quickly.
If the garage you go to say they'll drop the back end one notch or spline then find another garage. They are being lazy and not doing the job as well as it should be done! Ask them to remove the whole torsion bar and don't remove the arm from the axle tube.
Also if they say they'll drop the rear so it's level with the front then dont let them do it! The car is supposed to sit nose down. Alot of people seem to think it's best if the sills are level with the ground but it should be kept nose down for aerodynamic reasons and ground clearance.
Catscratch - try some GTi torsion bars for your back end, also some uprated or even GTi dampers (cheap for OE stuff) will help control a wobbley rear.

this whole lowering thing strikes the fear of god in to me i dont know what to do for the best i just want the wheels to fit nicely in the arches so do i drop the front end 40mm on new springs then buy four new shocks and get them fitted at same time? if i only buy springs for front and shocks all round will the rear of my be lowered after that or do i still get the torsion bar dropped one spline as well as new shocks being fitted arghhhh i knew i should have took that apprenticeship at the garage in stead of being a carpenter all those years ago, then maybe i would know what to do. HELP! IM THICK ABOUT CARS!

u can use just springs to lower your car, this will replace the springs u currently have and the rear shocks will stay the same but the torsion bar will have to be lowered.
u can also uprate (change) all 4 shocks with 2 new front springs and u still need to lower the torsion bar.

is there any way by lowering the torsion bar that it is dangerous ie damaging anything. i never really carry anything heavier in the back of car my than the shopping , dont really carry people in the back unless its on the odd occassion, i just dont want to be driving along and hitting the deck on every bump. or shall i just get the torsion bar dropped and worry about it later if anything happens? you only live once anyway!
