If you take the fascia off and get to the rear of the lighter you should be able to link it up there!! How much power do you need, I have linked my neons to the light in the ash tray, this is easier to get too - but i'm not sure if its enough power for you!!! Get us some pics of it installed tho mate!!

Just be carefull about the ammount of power you draw down from the ciggy lighter feed.
I have a 600W inverter that I keep in the car, I had it fused at 15A to the ciggy as I needed it to run a laptop, It drew about 13A and almost melted the lighter socket, it did destroy the adaptor though.
If its more than 150W it would be better to take a feed straight from the battery and use a relay connected to the ciggy lighter to switch it on & off with the ignition. I will be doing this shortly and also looking at putting a PC inside the glove box (Mini ITX 7" x 7" x 1", fits in the empty GPS slot at the top)

If you pull the ash tray out so will see a light on the passengers side of the tray. The bulb fits in with positive and negative, so all you need to do is test the positive and negative cables from the neons until the neon lights!! Get the neons from www.ebuyer.com (search for 12" cathodes) I got these and they are like pencil thickness and easy to hide!! If you need more detail let me know!! ;D

Yep thats what I did. The neons will only light one way!! So you no if you get it wrong just change the wire over. Easy enough!! You can hide the wires under the centre console, I lifted up my gaiter and pulled the wire up, then pulled it across to where the ash tray normally sits, lifted the bulb out, put one wire in one side of the yellow connector and the other in the other. THen pushed the bulb back down to keep the wires in place!! As you say, a bit fiddly to splice!!
