has anyone on here ever done any painting on their own cars, as i am wanting to paint me door stripes and bumper inserts (black parts) but not sure where to start??
i dont actually want to colour code it with diablo red but want to keep it black, coz i want a contrasting look on my car, so the black shiny stripes will suit the car loads!!!
can anyone point me in the right directions as to how to remove the bumper stripes and then what i need to spray/paint meself.
many thks!!

Well Chi after I painted the front plastic grille I dont think I will be attempting any other bits!! ;D
I used primer, then the silver paint then clear laquer. Think those are the three things you will need!!
You will prob need to sand (prepare) the strips first then prime it. Do several coats. Then several coats of black shiny paint and finish with several coats of clear laquer. My front grille has lost alot of its silver - bin chipped - but thats obviously because of all the stones that are flung up.
To take the front and back strips off you will need to remove the bumpers - if you need more info on that then let me know. To remove the side ones I personally would open a door and get a long flat screwdriver - push that between the strip and the car to release the clips holding it on. These can be quite difficult as clips can break. I would get some side strips from a scrappy and paint them!!
You may want to ask what sort of paint you need to get!! Cause there are many diff types - let me know how you get on - I would like to give it a go with black 2.

To remove the side ones I personally would open a door and get a long flat screwdriver - push that between the strip and the car to release the clips holding it on. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING THIS - You will instantly damage/scratch/mark your paintwork as you lever the screwdriver toward the car to pop the clips. If you don't damage the paint finish you will almost certainly create little impresses where the leverage has been applied to the body panel. If you want them off, then pop the clips from behind. You need to take the interior door card off, and pop about three clips from inside. Then go outside get hold of the bit you have freed and gently pull the strip off the clips using the strip as the lever. You will break the clips as they are one way and no one ever assumes you want to take them off, unless you bust your car and they snap off of their own accord.

I didnt mean to do it from all around the car!! Just where they meet at the door!! This way you can move the screw driver along and pull the clips off that way. If you do scratch it then it will be behind the strips so wont be seen!!
Your idea sounds good for the front - but on a 3rd its a real pain getting to the back!!
Get some from the scrappy!! ;D

Im considering doing it myself! The problem with spraying stuff of this size is getting a colour match, but painting it gloss black you wont have that problem. The main problem then becomes getting an even coat etc, but I think if you took your time you could get it looking right.
