on elephant.co.uk when i was runnin quotes they woudn't insure 30% + tints but would on 30% and below..in other words smoke is fine but dark smoke & Limo is not......but if you have Light smoke (25%) then it should be fine dont know why they've made such a fuss over yours...

Oldbanger2 has stated that he has dark smoke on the front windows, which as per the law makes him illegal. However I think if he had it done before the law changed then I think he could get grandfathers rights dispensation. I am lucky where I live, cos I don't think the cops even know that windows are tinted. They probably think that dark windows are the appeal of yoofs cars round 'ere

London there's so much of it they dont bother with it.
further more the law states any film STUCK on the window is illegal... if you go all out and get your windows Dipped then it wont be any stuck on material
btw what is grandfather dispensation? would be good to know

btw what is grandfather dispensation? would be good to know If you could do something within the law and it changes to make it illegal, you may continue as you had the right before and you were acting correctly at the time. For a better example. I passed my test at a time that allowed a car licence to drive upto a 7and half ton fixed body lorry. The law changed the year after I passed making it that you had to take a test to get the consent to drive a fixed body vehicle of that weight. However, because I passed my test and I was able at that time to drive the lorry, I still can even though now I would techincally be against the law. Thats grandfathers rights, now in oldbanger2's case he may have fitted the tints before they became illegal. Therefore he was within the law when they were fitted, now just cos the law has changed don't mean its illegal if he can prove grandfathers rights. Being as he had no vision they were about to change the law and he is unable to get the tints off. Thats what I would try, but he may have changed to tints after the law was in place, but I would be surprised if the tint company didn't refuse to fit them to the front window.

hmmm so in my case the windows were done by the last owner who had it done 2 years ago ;D Well yeah, but they would want to see the invoice for proof they were done before the law changed. Again, I am not sure that this theory would apply in this situation either.

so the drivers side aint tinted? damn the police down your side are very militant! what insurance company you with? i'm staying well away from events where cars meet, police are always hunting in those events if my tints were standard manufacturer tints i would go to court to appeal. visors are allowed up to 6 inches! just aggrovates me hearing this crap....
