i have recently had my 206 gti lowered, the front is fine and lowered by about 30mm, but the back is much lower, the top of the trye has almost dissaperared completly under the wheel arch, when i asked at the garage the man said this is normal for this car and he had only lowered it one spline on the torsion bar, i have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever, please tell me, is this right?

Firstly Welcome to the Forum!!
Does it look nice lowered that much? If so and there is no rubbing then I'd leave it mate!!
What size wheels is your ride on? and tyre sizes if poss? Sorry for all the questions!!
It does seem a bit strange for that to happen, I havent seen n e pics of the 206 lowered that much!
But the 206 looks higher at the back n e way so most people lower the back more than the front!!
Teddy is our main expert on lowering, i'm sure he will post asap mate!!
p.s. If you have some pics that would be cool!!

Hi, thanks for reply as far as how it looks, ive had mixed responses, some people think it looks great, others think it is too much. myself i think it looks ok, however when i look through the rear view mirror all i can see is tarmac, also at night i seem to be blinding other drivers who keep flashing me thinking i have my lights on full beam, and as for accessing the spare wheel, forget it! Wheels are 16in alloys, not sure about tyres

If he says he's lowered it one spline then thats the problem. (actually sounds more like 2 splines to me - this usually gives the sunken look at the back). Sounds like he's removed the arms from the tube instead of removing the torsion bars and inserting them at the desired height. Using the spline method means you are fixed between set drops. Removing the torsion bars literally means it can be lowered at exactly the amount you want to. I'd take the car back and ask them to do the job properly. Mine is lowered about 40mm at the back and still the tyres dont sit above the arches. Yours is probably dropped about 50 or 60 by the sound sof it.

Thanks for that, looking at yours, if thats been lowered by 40mm at the back then mine must have been lowered by at least 60mm, maybe more, its much lower at the back than yours. yours looks like i was expecting mine to look like when i went to collect it. Thats what i wanted, unfortunately i dont have enough knowledge to argue with them.

ok try this... find a non lowered GTI (with the same size wheels)...... take a tape measure....measure the distance from the centre of the wheel (where the lion is) to the tip of the arch...compare this to your car....you will get a ruff idea of how much lowering has been done...
also dependant on how you parked your car....like when i pull the hand brake up before i release the brakes the back of the car sits much lower...but once i release the handbrake it springs back up

You know the default rear arch looks different than the front so it makes ppl think the rear is lower than front at default. I got 3.5 cm front springs and personally wanted front lower than rear so car's nose would be looking a bit more to the floor. The garage said the same thing so they lowered the rear about 2 cm. Looks better I wish i hade some bodykit to make her look phat

From the factory the rear sits higher and it also has more travel than the front so you can afford to lower it a little bit more. Even when lowered the rear should still be slightly higher than the front...

hello friends.. i want to ask u some questions. ý have pug 1.6 16V. it is lowered with apex springs 35mm and rear ý son know exact but may be 40-45.. and when 2-3 heavy people sit back, back of the car sits to the ground and it is a very bad view:( i bought eibach sportline kit 50mm and now ý want to buy bilstein shocks ..when ý fit the shocks to the car (both to front and rear offcourse) will there be a problem like this when 2-3 people sit back of the car??.. and my car is a mechanýc and we want to change and fit these parts to my car ourselves..is it a hard job? does it require a knowledge to understand from peugeot cars? does it diffucult and requýre dýfferent equýpments to adjust the torsion bar?? ý asked too many questions sorry..ý am waiting your answers soon:)tnxx :

Bilstein dampers wont stop the rear end dropping when people sit in the back. You need uprated torsion bars to help it stay level...
