Just wondering if anyone has ever made, bought, or heard of anybody who has aluminium checkerplate floor mats in their Pug? On eBay there are a few for sale in Germany, but obviously for LHD models. I've been scouring the net and can find plenty of Focus owners with 'em, as well as high performance cars with custom made mats, not to mention an endless string of Aussie sites advertising checkerplate EVERYTHING for your Ute... Does anyone know how much it costs to buy sheets of the stuff and how easy or otherwise it is to cut? I'd happily take on the job myself using my knackered old carpet mats as a template ;D In case anyone doesn't know what I'm ranting on about, or what the hell checkerplate is, here's a pic I nicked from eBay - imagine how nice that would feel underfoot I hope someone can help - can't handle these Focus owners having one up on us! PS - am I the only one who posts after midnight?

Checker plate is obtained as a plastic sheet, because if you had a metal one it would allow your feet to slip when wet. Haynes Modification Manual, says to get the plastic plate and mount on a peice of hardboard with strong glue. The hardboard is only where your feet will go to just under the pedals mainly the flat part of the footwell, then the other peice you can leave unsupported, but it is quite easy to crack if you get it wrong. I'll see how I can scan the pages, have lent the book to my mechanic guy, so bear with me till I get it back, shouldn't be long. ;D Being a plastic effect rather than actual checker plate (IMO it looks better) should not be too expensive, try www.speeding.co.uk to see if they have some, don't know off hand, it therefore shouldn't be that hard to cut.

speeding.co.uk do sell rolls of 'flexible checker plate', but I am kinda set on the real thing, despite the whole slippery when wet thing.
At the moment I have carpet mats, but the driver's side one was wearing thru to a hole. Bought a metal heel plate to cover it and often do a very scary near-splits when I get in in the rain!
It'd be cool if you could get the scans - I still have an open mind about it, esp. if it might save a bob or two ;D
Cheers!

You can get mats with 'checkplate' inlays from Halfords and most other good retailers My mate's got his whole car coated in checkerplate (it's a 106)... It took him hours of painstaking work, but frankly i think he went a bit over the top doing the whole floor of the car and (don't tell him but) i think it looks a bit cr@p

I've seen the mats in halfords - i think they look pretty awful They also sell checkerplate heel plates which looked to be awkwardly large. Think I might consult the Yellow pages to see if I can find a company that will be able to use my carpet mats as a template to cut the plate to shape. I was happy with my carpet mats, but the driver's one needs replaced. The metal plate with rubber grips I bolted onto the mat to cover the frayed bit looks OK.... but it's not checkerplate

Dive in the Yellow Pages and look for any sheetmetal company (i know that sounds obvious but sheetmetal work is quite hard to do and I wouldn't go down any old metal merchant to get it), they will have all the equipment to cut and mould to shape, they will also be able to give you the best options of checkplate, like stainless steel, steel, galvanised etc. and I would guess the best prices too.

Go to Demon Tweeks they have ally checkerplate floor mats for most vehicles including the 206 shaped to fit the foot well. I think they cost around £50 made by quickshift i think.
