Hi,
my girlfriend has a 206 and shes having trouble starting it.
the key turns (and unlocks the car -lights flash) all the internal lights come on fine, no warning lights. when starting it turns over but doesnt start.
Shes tried Jump starting it and the ol' "Jam your foot on the Acc and turn the key" trick. but it doesnt start.
I doubt its the immob as it turns over, Any ideas?

If it was the immobiliser then I would say you wouldn't get firing at all.
If she has jammed the foot to the pedal she also would have flooded the engine. Engines don't really need any gas pedal action to get them to go as the computers set a cold start routine automatically.
if she has flooded the engine, then just hang on the key till the fuel is burnt off. If the immobiliser is still engaged then the red alarm light on the dash will remain flashing or signalling of some sort.
You really need to asscertain if petrol is going to the engine, or in the case of a diesel I don't know what to do.

Thanks for the reply BigOL, but she tried cold starting it initially so Shes had the RAC man out now and hes plugged his "magic" computer in and apparently the fuel pump is dodgey and needs replacing. He overided the warning and the car started. Joy of joys. Had the car 4 days so far.... Back to the peugeot garage it goes! Oh and they recon they need to charge a £50 (+VAT) diagnostics fee! great. so their going to plug a computer in and see the error messages and charge me for it. Blinking extended warrenties.... (its 4 yrs old so not covered by standard warrenty.)

that is the same problems i had with my car on sat but i knew the battery was half knackered so changed it and it now starts fine.....so it might be a solution, just ask a random garage to do a check on your battery (think kwik fit might do it??)

You hear the fuel pump pressurising when you turn ignition on. If the fuel pump is u/s then it wouldn't do this. What did the RAC guy override to allow it to start? Did it then run ok?

I'm afraid I can't tell whether its the battery or not, but the RAC guy apparently plugged his computer in, saw something on it and said that it was the fuel pump regulator, he then fiddled with some thing underneath the grey metallic box (the computer?) on the drivers side underneath the bonnet and said to her, try it, and it started straight off, and ran fine all the way home. I'm afraid I cant say more then that as I wasn't there! Its being looked at by Peugeot today (bit of a knee jerk I know but I didn't want it to die again and have to pay for it to be towed to the garage!) so we'll soon know what the problem is. If, of course, there is a report of no problem then it can only be the battery, however she did try and jump start it so I will report back here what they say in case anyone else finds the same problem. ;D

ECU - Maybe... don't know where that is though I bought it from a different Pug garage, but the people at the one I bought it from have said if anythings found to be wrong they'll cover the diagnostics charge this garage is charging which is nice. The warrenty covers any work to be done though. ;D just waiting on the call back.

Right, Apparently it was the "transponder arial" or something Its 101.54 in total (including a 50 diagnostics charge) and joy of joys my warrenty hasn't been set up yet! Just trying to call the place I got it from to make sure if I pay it that I'm going to be able to get my money back! GAH! the joy of a new car!

They'll pay me back and the car will be ready in half an hour! but I still think that the "transponder arial" is either made up, or just a wire. Which would make it £50 for the wire. still, I'm not paying! ;D Edit: Sorry for the triple post ^^ I'm abit stressed

the actual error that came up on the Pug Diagnostic was "Code not recognised" (or similar ) so immobaliser it was. still confused as to why the car sounded like it turned over, but hey its fixed. and should pick up the key code now !!! Though I may replace the battery anyway, reading these forums it seems like its a big cause of these failed cold starts.... Glad to hear is sorted - so you modding it now then? Haha! Don't have the money at present, got to wait till Peugeot actually give me the money !!! That and after being paid a couple of times, That said I have already started looking at Alloys .... 1.6 Glx Diablo Red (Pearl)
