Anyone know where the Internal Air Inlet is? Haven't got round to getting myself a Haynes manual as they don't cover the GTI.
I've got myself a can of Wynn's Airco Fresh and want to see if it really does clean and kill ll fungi and bugs in the evaporator. I hate having that wet pongy smell in the car when I switch between A/C and Eco.
Cheers,
Stan

If your talking about the engine air intake, then M3 is right, its under the nearside wheel arch. If your talking about the cabin air intake, then its at the back of the engine bay on the offside (where the black bonnet vents lead to) this is where the cabin filter goes. I think thats where youre talking about
They tend to go moldy if the a/c aint used often enough, it just becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. I think you need to have the a/c on for at least on hour a week (though i could be wrong)

No, I think he means the point at which the air is sucked into the car for the air con. It actually draws air from outside through the bonnet vent, but normally with those aircon cleaners it tells you to start the car, put the aircon on with the blower speed at max and select the recirculation button so it will only recirculate the air inside and not suck in any extra from outside. You then set off the cleaner which will spray for a few minutes and leave the car closed and running as above for about 15 mins (with you NOT in the car) This fully circulates the cleaner through the matrix and all associated ducting to kill bacteria etc. If it does say to shove it down the air intake then that'll be the bonnet one, but I would advise taking the pollen filter out first.

And heres me thinking the bonnet vent is just for show! I take it it is just for show on lower spec cars like mine?

Thanks for all the replies.
It doesn't look like finding the internal inlet is going to be easy.
To use the spray I need the internal inlet. As described by Mr Napalm, you need to set the A/C on recirculate, which means that the external intake at the back of the engine bay is not part of the A/C circuit. So it won't work using that inlet.
Hmm... There must be a inlet somewhere on the inside of the car for the recirculation function to work.
May have to wander by Halfords and browse the Haynes manual for internal inlet.
I'll let people know where the it is, if I am able to find out it's location.
Cheers,
Stan

The only way I can think of seeing where it is is to take a sliver of paper and hold it against the various oulets in the car and the one that sucks the paper into the vent is the INLET.
I was under the impression that most aircon cleaners just dispense into the air and the recirculate draws in the tiny droplets as part of the process, never heard of having to spray into it.
My first guessed for the inlet in recirculate mode would be the two centre vents, then a floor vent, then somwhere down near the screen outlets.

Haynes manual says its up near where the fan is up under the dash. Haynes manual says 'intake aperture on the underside of heating/ventilation housing duct'. Let us know how you get on.

ye the internal air intake is located (when standing infront and looking over the engine bay) at the top left, right at the back, right behind water tank for the radiator............
AJ, turn your fan on max and put it on fresh air feed...go out and place you hand over the bonnet vents and feel the air being sucked in....

Thanks, had been wondering where that was. Haven't known how deep water its safe to drive through for 3 years since I got rid of the metro. (Not that I make a habit of driving through water, its a 206 not a landrover!, but some country roads I have to drive on to get to work can get interesting in winter)

Or use a lit cigarette and see which way the smoke goes.
I'm pretty sure it will be under the dashboard probably near the center. The only thing that concerns me is you have to be in the car, breathing it in when you do it.
