Another fault with my car. When reversing out of parking space yesterday, knocking sound from front left of car. Sound is there no matter if you are turning left or right, forward or reverse and always from front lhs. When car heats up, sound goes away??. When driving nomally (or fast) no sound. Help

How loud is it? I think it could be a bearing like I had. When I went fast(er) the sound sometimes sounded like it went away because the knocking became so speeded up it became a continuous hum, but very quiet.

Any vibration through the steering wheel/pedals/floor pan?

No feeling at all when there is noise. Just the sound. I'm thinking (hoping) it is the anti-roll bar drop links as these are a common fault and are cheap and easy to change.

Day off is Thursday. Will take wheel off and have a look then. I've a Honda warranty with car but they admitadly don't know much about Peugeot(the're very good otherwise). Bit of a hassle taking car into Glasgow everytime something goes wrong but nothing else I can do about it.

Best thing to do, put it down to French Peugeot Designers who are long gone on Stella!!

It sounds like you have a CV joint problem, the best way to check it is go to a big open space somewhere and put it on any lock and drive around a circles, and if you are getting a knocking noise still it is then the CV joint. then put it on the other lock to check that CV joint.
if it knocks when pulling off you could have a gearbox mounting worn or an engine mounting worn. a another common thing with peugeot is that the mounting break.

Mine is ok full lock both ways. I suspect it could be mount as it knocks slightly when engine labours. o/s mount is under management box so is a bugger to get to. had a quick look today.

I recently has my gti in for its 80k service and happended to mention the knocking. It only occurs at very low speeds about 10 - 15 mph in 1st and 2nd gear. The garage reckoned that it was maybe a worn engine mounting. (I wonder whether they meant worn gearbox mounting? ) Anyway they did not seem too bothered by it and suggested i get it sorted the next time i had it in for something. It still runs okay so it cannot be that serious, it's just bloody annoying.

Checked out wishbone bushes while fitting qs. Lots of little stones sitting on wishbone between rubber and arm. Removed same. Could these be causing noise. Gave them a good squirt with wd40.
