I was on the way home last night when the car seemed to loose all power and the engine diagnostic light came on! I pulled over straight away, turned the engine off and back on again and the light was still on, but the engine was revving ok. As I was only about 1 mile from home I decided to drive home. The car was driving fine but the light was still on. When I got home I turned the engine off and on again and the light went off........I know that with some cars you have to turn the ignition on and off so many times in order to reset the system, so I guess this is what I did. Is this just a blip? Is it something that just happens sometimes? Do I need to take it to a garage for diagnostics? Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks

This symtom happens to everyone who has the cut-out problem and wonky idle problem.
Being as your light stayed on for a while it may pay you to hook it up to the diagnostics machine to see if anything registered, but be prepared for a bill of about £50 for that.

Hope that doesn't mean that my car is going to start cutting out etc? Well, if the diagnostics says there is something then you might not have this problem, but have another. However if diagnostics didn't detect anything, then I am afraid to say you are suffering from the symtoms that most people describe as their beginnings of the cutout problem and rough idle problem. Thankfully, most people get it sorted by a change of coil pack and new plugs, however some are more troublesome. I have no idea how your's will turn out and neither will the Pug technicians either.

Light came on today and idle started hunting. Drove ok for a few miles and light came back on. Switched engine off / on and light stayed on. On way home car cut out completely. luckily nearly home and was slowing down for speed bump. Car has a Honda warranty but It'll have to go to peugeot to get checked.

Car goes to Honda garage on monday.(Honda warranty). Decided to check myself today. removed coil pack and spark plugs. plugs are Bosch fr8me. Coil has black plug so I guess this is the older type(bbc2.2 ?). Nothing visible so refitted. checked all other sensor connections ok. Took out idle stepper motor and all gunked up. Cleaned up with turps and cotton buds. cleaned inside stepper housing on throttle body. started engine and no yellow light. left idling for 10 mins occasionally blipping throttle. Took for run and after 4 miles, yellow light came on but still running ok. stopped, counted to 30 and restarted. light off. drove home and left idling, ok. redlined it a few times, light stayed off. still something wrong with it but as long as it keeps going.

Emily, what model is your car and how old is it. It's strange how peugeot haven't worked out what is going on with their cars.

Emily, what model is your car and how old is it. It's strange how peugeot haven't worked out what is going on with their cars. Mine's a 1.6 GLX, June 2001. Fortunately nothing else has happened with my car yet. As per the other post and M3}{R4N's comment about it coming on when you boot it, I'm wondering if this is why mine did it? Here's hoping that's all it was

There's a few known reasons why these cars cut out - found by specialists not Pug dealers.
If Peugeot admitted they knew what was wrong then that would be admitting there's a problem with their cars and they're not gonna do that...

Got my incident report form in from Peugeot today. They don't even have a freepost address to send it back to.
