Hi, I’ve got a 2001 1.1i 206 Style and I recently slapped 17” inch rims on it. Two days after fitting them on I noticed my brakes getting harder and at a tap of the brakes the car would slow down, where before u kind of did have to push the brake pedal down for it to grip. On a hill the car will not roll back and in slow traffic it takes a good rev for it to move off & HALTS ON IT OWN ACCORD WITH OUT ME BRAKING! This all happens after driving the car for lets say 20 minutes It guzzling up patrol like mad but I’m thinking the callipers are on there way to ceasing up… any one had any issues like this? Should I take the brakes apart and clean it?

I would defo get your car to a (near by) garage and get your brakes looked at asap, if its nowt to serious you can find out whats wrong and sort it yourself!!

Think this high petrol consumption and hard pull-away may be down to the fact you have HUGE wheels on a car with such a relatively small engine! Surely you don't expect your 1.1 to cope very well with the extra weight/rotation required to get the car moving do you - after all it has to move tonnes of car as well as the extra weight from your wheels and you've made it harder for the engine to do this by increasing the rotation required to move forward? I'd slap your old wheels on and see if the problems still there... If not you know you either need some super light 17"s or to ditch the wheels!

I'd get your brakes looked at like ajg1974 says, If you can do it yourself all the better just strip them grease them up and put new pads in and also renew the brake fluid as it will be no good now it as been boiled. I cant see it having anything to do with your alloys unless they are fitted wrong, I've had 17" on my 1.4 for nearly 2yrs now and have not had this problem.

i doubt its the alloys size becuase i know untold amount of people who got 17's & 18's on there 1.1i and it aint affected them.....when the weather cools down i'l strip it down.....but i just think its the callipers because now i hear a constant hissing noise from the driver side brakes when driving normally..........
there was a recall on brakes before but i dont know if the previous owner took it in?could i still take it in to Peugeot

rang the previous owner of the car and she said that yes she had previously had probs with the callipers,,she faxed the service report and it simply stated calipers freed and cleaned! so i'm thinking the extra pressure from the 17's is placing pressure on it again..... should have really listened to the ol man leave the car standard!its gona affect everything else!

do ur discs heat up really quickly, mine do that too. even the new ones. i was told the best ones to get wen u replace em are the original puegeot ones.. but not the solid ones, get the vented ones, which distributes the heat. its due to the hevy alloys..

The recall was for a pin on the brake pedal not anything to do with the callipers. Take it to your dealer the can tell you striaght away if its been in for a recall, it will be on the computer. Is you car still under warranty, if so take it back for the callipers they will still fix them even with big alloys on. Now as for you dad saying that it's all part and parcel of modding a car. so far I've replaced ofside driveshaft both anti roll bar links and a gearbox and I think my nearside driveshaft is on its way out If you want a stunning car you got to pay the price
