Can anyone tell me how to operate my "automatic headlights", and how do they work and how do I know they're activated.

Auto-headlight activation: Put key in ignition, turn one 'click' to get power but not start the engine, hold down button on the end of the right stalk until the display tells you auto headlights are on/off. The auto headlight will come on (never sidelights) when it's dark/dusky enough to warrent them (or if you go in an underground car park/tunnel) you'll see that they illuminate the road in front (pretty big give away ) but the 'headlight light' will come on on the dash display (little green dipped headlight near dials).

Sometimes mine don't even require a tree or any form of shade to switch on and off, one minute they think it's dark then they change their mind, then they reconsider and keep changing!!!

Thanks Mullet, I've been tryin to get this function active on mine and I have so far resigned myself to thinking although I have a stalk with this button, I haven't got the option fitted.
I will try your routine, as I always hold the button in when the car is running, which now I know, is wrong.
I have had this active on a C3 I used to drive and found it useful, but annoying. When it got slightly dark, but not necessary for lights they come full on. Blinding the oncoming driver. Have asked Citroen dealer to try and adjust them, but apprantly there is no adjustment. They have a customer who owns a C5, with the same feature, when he drives to work down a county lane under trees doing about 50 they lights keep flicking on/off making it look as though hes flashing the oncoming driver or the one he's following. He just drives his C5 round on sidelights all the while now.

As my favourite Top Gear mag journo, Anthony ffrench-Constant once said, in regards to the very...hm, sketchy performance and unreliable operation of Pug auto headlights and wipers: "i've got a perfect set of rain and darkness sensors hat always work perfectly - they're called EYES!" Guy's perfectly right, just use the damn manual stalk, auto doesn't work well anyway!
