Should be faster with a near empty tank - less weight.
Better power to weight ratio. Just let your tank go down to the orange light and then put a small amount of 'fresh' fuel in if you like.

And also I think the tank is fuller so more fuel is push through, allowing faster reaction. But I do see what your saying!! I also like in near the end of the tank as car is lighter!! but more fuel in the tank makes the car more heavier....hence slower, but not by much. the amount of fuel pushed thru the system will remain the same at any given time...unless u mod your engine. |

I reckon it's a Placebo effect, you come out of the petrol station and want it to drive faster. When you are running low on fuel you tend to drive lighter and use less fule, then after you fuel up you probably floor it a bit more because you know you know you don't have to conserve fuel.

Well just to add my tuppence worth, I always found my GTi to respond and go better with half and under of a tank and worse when half a tank and over.
I don't think its a placebo effect as the cars performance will increase as the weight of the fuel decreases, but my GTi rocked with under half tank and I always kept it there for that reason.

Thats all true Big!! I agree!! I cant wait til I get a GTi, I hate SL55 AMG's - too fast 4 me  - I will not say why, but one of them is on my wish list now!! |

SL55 AMG's are the daddy's of the road! look so nice yet sophisticated at the same time! but the SL65 AMG is even worse! lee, therz no shame in getting smoked by a SL55 AMG (i am jus guessing its the reason y u hate them)...or has your friend/family jus got one? |

I didnt get smoked cause there were other cars that he had to wait and overtake, lets just say we played an overtaking game!! ;D ;D
Apparently a mate knows the guy who drives it, says its had restrictions taken away etc!! Was mighty fast!!
