Hi all!
I have a few prob's!!!
I just got my car yesterday and when I set the alarm and deadlock using the remote - after bout 1-1.30 hours the alarm goes off. It thoroughly annoyed my parents last nite cause it went off at bout 2 in morning!!
Do you know how to solve this prob.
Also my door makes a strange clicking sound when I open and close it!! Should I put WD40 on the joint?
Many Thanks

Alarm might be related to the door. The door lock has a control box which send signals to the BSI if the door is unlocked and locked, open or closed etc... The door actuator is a very common problem where water leaks down the inside of the door and fouls the control box. This can cause the control box to send all sorts of signals to the BSI, including if the door is locked and alarm is armed, then the control box can send a signal that the door has just opened thus firing the alarm.
See if you have a door lock problem, by following Diag's test of getting in the car, and locking each door individually with the pins, if you have a lock problem then they most likely will bounce, which means the door pin will pop back up into the unlock position, this will diagnose the door lock problem and most likely why your alarm goes off.
WD40 in the door hinge and on the door strap my cure your problem, your better off using oil rather than WD40 as its not an oil its a releaseing agent. You should be able to visually check if the hinges are dry.

Lee, you might think i'm having a laugh but stay with me on this I too had the alarm going off all night once: Ok so I lock/alarm car and go in house, after an hour alarm goes off, go out to check and turn off, re-arm the alarm, go in same thing happens ad-nausium Anyway the next day I get in the car, drive off after a sleepless night of the alarm going and get on the motorway only to have a fly wake up from in front of the dials and fly in my face... Seems he was buzzing around the inside and setting off the alarm all night. As it's spring/summer and there are alot of flys/insects about that could easily get in the car you might wanna have a good look... Stupid yes but sometimes these things are

Cheers Mullet,
That could have been the problem!!
I have been setting the alarm but not the deadlock and it hasn't gone off. So we put it down to a prob wit the deadlock system. But when I get back from college 2nite I will try the deadlock again. If it doesn't go off I will put it down to a fly. There were alot of flies about the day it went off.
Thanks for that

I have since found out that the problem is somethin to do with the deadlock system!! I can set only the alarm with remote and it is fine. But if i set the alarm then deadlock it will go off after bout 1 hour. I tried it yesterday. I am not totally sure how the deadlock works so I dont know what could be the cause. Anyone got any ideas? Please!!

Sounds like the door lock actuators to me, this is a very very common problem with water ingress into the control box.

Or perhaps try disabling the interior sensors, then arm the alarm and deadlocks?

I had the same prob on my GTI. Turned out to be the ultrasonics.I found this by disableing them and setting the alarm and hey presto no prob. Pug dealership plugged it into the diags and confirmed it. PS. Woz told that by pressing the button once this only lockes the car, no alarm is armed. Second button does the deadlocks and alarm. This sounds right cus is we pressed the button once the alarm woz not triggered, if it woz armed the ultrasonics wud have gone off. Turned out 150 pounds fitted. Not a bad price to be able to get some kip
