Due to my oh so kind mum and gran, continually smacking my door off of walls when they get out of my car not realising that the 3 door 206 has big doors, I have rust along the edge of the passenger door. Today I rubbed down the paint and rust but found that its gone under the paint and Ive had to rub down the paint about 2cm from the edge of the door. I painted over the metal with touch up paint but the finish just isnt smooth enough and its noticeable. I was hoping it would just be along the edge so touch up paint would be fine, but because its also going along the actual front of the door too by as much as it is, I dont think I can get a good enough finish to make it look right. What should I do? I was thinking of taking it to a bodyshop for a quote but I'm thinking they will want to spray my whole door Is this my only real option?

You might be able to get one of those chip repair companies to do it, like dent doctor or chips away i think their called, they do small spray jobs pretty well i think, although ive never used one but heard good reports about them

Was at a body shop today, they said £240, I pretty much just ran away! They wanted to spray the door and the panel behind it cause they said there would be a noticable difference in the paint colour! I also think he said it was pearlescent and thats why, but I'm sure Mercury Grey isn't, but correct me if I'm wrong. What makes a pearlescent paint different from a metallic paint?

Lol what a load of cr@p, pearlescent is where the paint goes from one colour to another depending on what angle its viewed at, the same as mother of pearl goes from pink to blue and green, hence the name. and would it not be easier if your gonna go for the bodyshop option to get some paint from peugeot yourself so you know its gonna be a deffinate match

The paint is very hard to get an exact match, even direct from Pug, cause its not painted in the same conditions as it was in the factory etc. On touch up paints from Pug it even says "slight differences in the colour are unavoidable".
Got another quote today, it was for about £150-£170, which is better but still pricey, but it was by a bodyshop that fixed a lot of damage to my car before and they did a great job. They also wanted to paint both the door and the other panel, for the same reasons as the first bodyshop.
I'll have a think about it.

Id still recommend to try one of those chip repair companies just to get a price before paying out loads, they could be more expensive but its worth finding out i think

pearlescent paint does not have to be a colour that goes frm green to blue or anyother colour! it is just another type of metalic.
your car isnt pearlescent anyway its just a metalic!
They are prob right tho, if you do take it to a bodyshop they would propbably paint the door and a bit more of the car so they can blend it in. i dont no how much has gone rusty and how big the area is but the end of the day bodyshops carnt win, they could prob do it for 100 but then you would complain about the quality and you wouldnt be happy, so as long as they do a good jod i wouldnt of thought if was a bad price as painting is getting v expensive.

Pearlescent paint has another layer of paint on it, think of it like an effect that oil has on water, there is a certain shine/hue to the paint, two tone paint is the other type most seen in Too fast too furious where you can have a car with a green base coat and blue two tone coat where the surfaces that face you shine green and the rest shine blue, there are some nice combinations out there...
